Frequently asked questions

In the first session we carry out an interview and a thorough examination to ensure a diagnostic orientation. We review any tests you bring us, such as reports, X-rays or MRI scans. We spend the rest of the session on manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and specific techniques. Finally, we explain what you should do and avoid, along with the prognosis and the approximate number of sessions you will need.
It is not essential. The more information we have, the better. Seeing your doctor or a specialist, or having complementary tests, is the most useful and desirable option. But if you have an acute problem such as a stiff neck, neck pain, low back pain, headache or sciatica, we will assess you and act when it is safe and necessary; if we have any doubts, we will guide you to the most suitable specialist.
High-velocity manipulations, or thrusts, are manual therapy techniques commonly used by physiotherapists and osteopaths. We never perform them without the patient consent, as we believe it is important to talk through fears and pain together.
Physiotherapy sessions are experiences agreed between therapist and patient: some people prefer gentler therapies while others prefer stronger ones. Depending on the length of the session, the techniques used, the intensity or the sensitivity of the person, some may feel tired or drowsy for a few hours, or a sensation similar to muscle soreness for one or two days. We take your activities and needs into account in order to design the most suitable therapy.
Acupuncture is not a painful practice, although there are more sensitive areas of the body such as the hands, feet and face. When it is applied correctly you will feel a slight tingling sensation or mild swelling, but no pain.
Each person has a particular sensitivity to acupuncture. We normally recommend between 3 and 4 sessions to notice good results. Its effect is also cumulative and depends on frequency. A good option would be two sessions in the first week and one session in the second and third weeks to obtain the best benefits.
Not at all. Qualified acupuncture practice is safe. It may occasionally cause small bruises that clear up in 2 to 3 days, or brief sensations such as tingling or local tenderness that disappear within 1 or 2 hours.
